Rothenberger Superfire 2: finding the right replacement burner

The Superfire 2 is the plumber’s cartridge blowtorch that keeps working for years — until the burner head gives up. The classic failures: a ragged flame from a worn orifice, sooting from carbon build-up, a stripped head thread after a drop, and a broken piezo. Most of them are the head, and the head is replaceable.

Match the symptom to the part. Distorted burner head or ragged, split flame → replacement burner. Yellow, sooting flame → clean first with a tip cleaner set, and replace only if it stays ragged after a proper clean. Ignition problems → the piezo, which is separate from the burner.

Cool and remove the old head, clean the seat threads, fit the new burner hand-tight plus a quarter turn ⚠, then leak-test the joint with soapy water. Never overtighten — a stripped seat is how blowtorches end up retired. Check local gas-appliance rules before fitting.
